'SM' Social Media
In my younger days I had a tough time deciding amongst my circle of friends which of them was my “bff” best friends forever, today however with puberty having taken its due course, that dilemma of choice is now left at deciding which Social Media platform I enjoy spending countless amounts of hours on as it has become the only means of social interaction with others outside of my family.
It is referred to as Social Media, however my literal social life has taken a knocking as a result of Social Media, young people and young adults everywhere struggle to remain undistracted by this phenomenon in their majority, not slamming social media what so ever just pointing out the only negative I have come to experience about social media in my professional (being a Public Relations student) and personal (an avid user) relationship with the phenomenon.
Professionally Social Media provides positives in all aspects as it is used as a marketing tool, for interaction between brands and their stakeholders, it helps organisations respond quickly to criticism etc. just some of the many benefits.
For individuals either then keeping people who may be far from one another connected it has somewhat drove those who were close further apart, how often would you witness a group of friends sitting in a group setting but not conversing amongst each other but instead on their cellphones either talking or texting enthusiastically, a common image in today’s society, in a case of parents grounding their teenagers, making no difference unless grounding them along with their cellphones, which is their ultimate instrument in engaging through ‘SM’.
Do we as society find anything wrong with this social crippler or is it something we as human beings just need to get used to.
That is very true, these days social media platforms make people anti-social, you could be sitting "socialising" with a friend and find that they are busy on their phone using a social networking site rather than talking to you.
ReplyDeleteyes, i dont know on how many ocassions ive found myself talking to a non responding being, it is so irritating! yes we love social media but its turning people into zombies.
ReplyDeleteit so true and i find it irritating even when i know it's rude but i guess it us try to multitask
ReplyDeleteFirst and foresmost social media has revolutionised the way we communicate whether in a business or personal context. In PR it's either you adapt or you perish...so in a nutshell we must get used to it.
ReplyDeleteyou know my parents always wonder what im doing with my phone because i always check it now and than trying to see if i have a new message or not. we young people who even organisations can not do without social media because the way techology is changeing, it has made things easy for us to be close to each other even if we stay in different coutry. social media make things happen for us.
ReplyDeleteYes, we just have to accept the fact that social media is here to stay. Looking at a positive perspective, even though it might create distance to friends seating in a group setting. it actually brings those that are far from you closer.
ReplyDeleteValid points I should say. The way organisation and young people socialise or interact has changed. Social media and social networks its not juss the, but it has and still influencing how we communicate.
ReplyDeleteNowadays we make our parties on Facebook. Just tweet our events. Our gatherings are done on whatsapp. So we nolonger see the use of having that human interaction cos social networks makes socialising much easier.
That is a valid point you share there Micheal and Toka, maybe the rest of us are just more focused on the personal aspect of how for example myself, iv even lost friends through this phenomenon and somewhat somber about that fact.
ReplyDeletesocial media has killed our intimate vibe as human beings
ReplyDeleteseverely but it is such a neccesity in life that we can no longer live without it, that addiction vibe in life
ReplyDeleteIndeed social media dominates, we just have to accept the fact that social media grows almost each day. I also love the fact that social media makes it easy for us to communicate, i honestly have no regrets with the addiction.
ReplyDeleteI think that as the years go by being anti-social is something that is going to increase as mobile phones and networks advance themselves and offer new and better applications
ReplyDeleteEverything we do these days includes social media, we have been introduced to an addictive electronic communication which we seem to can’t live without. Social media has interfered our daily actives. In some cases it is beneficial because you get to interact with anyone, anywhere and anytime.
ReplyDeleteI think social media is just being over done now. People dont even call anymore they just send you a watsapp text. Relationships are dying because of social media and its bad.
ReplyDeleteVery true. But then how do we reverse this? how do we go back to the days of being able to go without your phone for a week and still feel like your life hasn't fallen apart? and my answer to that is...GROWTH. I have seen it with myself
ReplyDeletesocial media has its positives and negatives, it is good and cheaper to communicate with people and make friends but they make people to be isolated in the real world.
ReplyDeleteI realy do like social media because it has helped a lot of people to communicate without having to engage in a face to face interaction.Which is an advatage for the corporate enviroment as well,in the basis of establishing relationships with the organisational stakeholders.
ReplyDeleteYou see, people have come to terms of communicating without talking to each other, but text instead. That is breaking the way things are supposed to be. Gadgets have taken over and had formed a new way of living, question is, is the society seeing that we are more robotic than before..?
ReplyDeletewell some, if not most people, not only locally but all over the world have become addicted to social networking, I honestly even don't know the last time I received a phone call, not only from my mom, people don't even call these days, and it's highly out of order
ReplyDeletewell social networking honestly made the communication in our organisations and in our personal lives a lot cheaper.this is the way forward, this is the future people,if you not ready for it,grab a pen and paper and wait for phone calls.we digital now.
ReplyDeletei prefer these social network thing even though it makes us anti-social because calling a person is costly.
ReplyDeletesocial media has kind of created to communicating face to face when we can just chat on facebook or twitter although sometimes it can be time consuming
ReplyDeleteThis social media thing just sucks! gadgets are now taking over, something needs to be done..
ReplyDeletesocial media, where you get to know your target public by their demographic, psychographic and their lsm, isn't it beautiful?
ReplyDeletetalk about being social unsocial. thanx to social media, normal conversations are perishing and we ask ourselves why we the lost generation.
ReplyDeletesocial media works perfectly fine for organisations compared to one's personal usage, we do not say much to our friends when talking face to face compared to when we making use of social media, we killing our society, social media is making us anti-social. But social media works at the organisations' advantage because it helps to convey a message quicker.
ReplyDeleteWe just need to adapt and get over it because social media is not going any where but good thing about social media is that it make time and location irrelevent as we can intercat with people we anytime and any place.
ReplyDeletelol socially unsocial, its not a hate page, just a diffrent perspective on the phenomenon
ReplyDeleteThe invetion of social media was the death of personal contact with people as well as the slow death of traditional media at work places
ReplyDeleteSocial media has made our lives a lot easier hey another adv is that they are cost effective..I dont have to call my friends and ask what they did in class, instaed Il just whatsapp her or even BBM her
